Since that was my go-to paper for my art prints, I had to shop around for a new printer. Until last year when it no longer printed correctly on the Epson luster paper. I did yearly maintenance on it and it never did me wrong. I've owned and consistently used a refurbished R1800 for 10 years.

Counter in printer prevents further printing when it thinks the internal overflow tank is full as a result of cleaning print heads. The print heads can be cleaned with the inks, but that wastes a lot of the (expensive) ink. Do your homework prior to cleaning the print heads. Watch out for: When ink reservoirs are removed, print heads tend to clog in the printer (reservoirs do not have the jets in them like HP). Quiet enough to not bother a light sleeper.ĭisadvantages: Large footprint (18" x 24") not counting paper output tray. CD tray should come with printer, but check before buying if purchasing used. Prints on "printable" Compact Disks - a little more expensive than regular cd's but much cheaper than adhesive labels. reasonably fast photo printer with available waterproof (pigment) inks. And it is now possible to print color and black and white images on the same printer using the same ink set.Advantages: Large format (13" wide x roll). Enhanced colors and fantastic tones can be produced due to the new black optimizer. When using the R1800 printer with the Lyson range of pigment inks, Lyson offers the photographer many benefits on the printing of both color and monochrome images. The installation and use of this system couldn't be easier it takes about 30 minutes to install, and doesn't require any permanent modification to the printer. This system features a new version of our Cave Paint pigmented inks, which provide a wider color gamut than Epson's Ultrachrome Hi-Gloss, while delivering deep rich blacks with no gloss differential. Even the ink tubing used is laboratory standard to reduce thickening of ink over time. The proprietary bulk ink feed cartridges feature built-in pressure dampers to automatically regulate ink flow, filters to protect the print head, and uses no foam rubber (which can deteriorate and lead to clogging during use). The space-saving modular ink reservoirs can be topped up while printing, and sealed when not in use to prolong ink life. Unlike most bulk feed systems, which use modified generic bottles and foam-filled standard ink cartridges, the Lyson bulk feed system for the Epson R1800 uses components specifically designed for use in continuous ink supply systems.
